Telecommuting GraphicTelecommuting
A Matter of Trust
Part IV

Don't be fooled by guarantees.
Some are cleverly worded to imply that you will definitely land a telecommuting job. But, guarantees are only promises that you can get your money back if you're not satisfied. You have to make an effort to claim it. Many don't claim their money, and that's how these sites stay in business.

The Internet has opened a whole new avenue for the scammers to fling the same bull you find in the classified sections of tabloids, so watch out for them on the Net, too. The old sayings apply.

  • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  • If it requires an investment or fee, ignore it.

Reputable job sites, recruiters and employers don't charge job seekers for typical employment services, period. In fact, it is outlawed in some states.

Incidentally, Jobs for Programmers is one of the most promising, reputable and free sites for telecommuting jobs—if you're a programmer, that is.
