Faster!
If you've had difficulty getting in lately, I apologize for the inconvenience. Besides the fact that the WWW has turned into the World Wide Wait, it's because traffic has increased tremendously, both at my site and About.com in general. But, I'm pleased to announce that we took major steps to resolve the problem last Saturday.

If you got into my site on Saturday, you may have ended up staring at a "holding page." While that may be better than staring at my horrible picture, it certainly didn't help your job search, and I apologize for that, too. But, it was a good thing. As the holding page explained, we were busy upgrading our speed and capacity, by switching over to a leading, digital distribution company. It's the same company that handles high-traffic sites such as Yahoo! and Netscape. We're still ironing out some wrinkles from the switch, but I think you'll note the improvement overall.

Thank you for visiting us so much, that we had to make this switch to serve you better. Unfortunately, we can't do much about the World Wide Wait!

Improvements
Last week, thanks to a reader's post to the bulletin board, I introduced a new category called Science and Medicine. It includes resources for careers in science, healthcare, and related industries throughout the world. There are many technical jobs in these fields.

You may have noticed that I've been diligently listing live career fairs in my events calendar, which I now call Live Job Fairs on my Welcome page (it's still called events in the navigation menu, though). But, that makes my Job Fairs category sort of redundant, because I include some of the same sites there, to which I link from my calendar. I think it's much easier for you find live job fairs in my calendar by date and city, than in my Job Fairs category by site name. So, I removed the job fair sites and renamed the category to Virtual Job Fairs, where I now list online job fairs (or CyberFairs if you prefer). I also moved sites that list career events at college campuses and other educational institutions to College Connections. I'll continue to list and add live job fairs in my events calendar, by date and city.

Quality not Quantity
I'm going to shoot for quality rather than quantity. According to statistics, only certain features are popular. So, instead of publishing features weekly, I'm going to publish them about every two weeks or so, to allow me to better research and write about subjects that are more on target. It'll also free me up to pay more personal attention to your increasing email, and keep up with the rest of my ever-growing site. I have lots of features in my archives that you can read while I'm writing new ones. If you miss reading new features weekly, let me know. It's your site too. Majority rules!

I hope you find this spring cleaning to be of benefit.
