Practice Interviewing Online

The Hot Seat is a wacky but educational, virtual interview from Kaplan, a company that specializes in test preparation, college admission and career services. If you answer a question inappropriately, you start all over again!

On a more serious note, practice to ace the interview in the Virtual Interview at Monster.com, by answering questions ranging "from puff ball to killer." Because they are randomly-generated, you may practice several times without getting the same questions in a row. You get immediate feedback for each of your answers, so you'll know right away if you did well or not.

As you answer questions in The Virtual Interview, you are rated in competency, presentation and personality. Some of the randomly-generated questions are straight forward. Others are challenging or even inappropriate, to help you practice for many situations. If you see your score drop after answering a question, you can click your browser back button and answer it again. (Is that cheating or learning?) If you score well in an interview, you are "called back" for another, for a total of three interviews.

This is just one of the cool tools at Career Toolbox, a creation of Chivas Regal, the Scotch whiskey folks—of all people! (While it has little to do with boozing it up, only adults of legal drinking age are invited into the site.) It includes advice for improving your professional situation, making your cash work harder, doing your own thing, and landing the job you deserve. If you want to research employers, link to 10,000 company capsules provided by Hoover's Online. Career Toolbox has too many graphics and frames, which contribute to its slow response (the frames are why I couldn't deep-link you to everything), but it's still pretty cool and no doubt destined for awards.
