What's a Webmaster?
There's no single, definitive answer. Employers are getting around to assigning
titles and descriptions for Internet-specific jobs, but standards have yet to
emerge in the US. If you ask three different employers—or for that matter, Webmasters—you'll
probably get three different job descriptions and titles.
But, at least one regulatory agency is attempting to set standards. The Canadian Government provides a job description in its Internet Guide. They are careful to call it a generic description, I guess to avoid stepping on corporate toes.
In the US, Webmaster is without a doubt a generic term that represents many, Internet-related jobs. Even the spelling isn't standardized: Webmaster and Web Master. There are also several variations and concoctions! For simplicity—whatever they are called and whatever they do—I'll stick with Webmaster for this feature.
