There are several U.S. taxes, credits, deductions and other income considerations related to your job. This guide helps you to target them.

Even the IRS is online and calls its site The Digital Daily. It includes lots of job-related tax topics, to which the sidebar on your right links. Each IRS link opens a smaller browser window, so this one will remain open in the background for your convenience.

Did you know that you might qualify to deduct job-searching expenses? Click Miscellaneous Expenses in the sidebar.

If you're a self-employed independent contractor (IC), you probably know that you're in a different ball game than employees. While this guide is tailored more for employees, many of the links in the sidebar are relevant for ICs, too. But you may want to start with Business Income, which is not in the sidebar. You might also want to read the Frequently Asked Tax Questions And Answers about being self-employed for all or only part of the year, and the info about paying self-employment and estimated taxes. All link you to forms and topics that are relevant for ICs.

Thinking about becoming an IC? Does your employer classify you as an IC, but exploit you as an employee?

IC or employee, you might also need forms, instructions or information about taxes, credits and deductions that are not necessarily related to your job or business. No problem. The Digital Daily is easy to browse and search, and you can easily navigate to most of everything you need to complete your taxes. Among other things, The Digital Daily offers:

  • Forms and instructions for downloading
  • Publications online and for downloading
  • State tax forms for downloading
  • Instructions neatly organized by tax topic
  • Information for filing electronically
  • New tax laws and changes
  • Search and index features

It's all free. Just click the links in the sidebar. This year, the IRS is offering relief for victims of the September 11 terrorists attacks, too. Isn't nice to know that at least some of our tax dollars are going for something useful?

The online forms and publications are available as PDF files. To view, print or download (save) the PDF files to your disk, you'll need the Adobe Acrobat Reader. You may download it for free right here. After you install the reader, your browser opens it automatically when you click on a link that requires it.
