Telecommuting
A Matter of Trust
Part V
Don't be fooled by telecommuting job guarantees.
Some are cleverly worded to imply that you will definitely land a telecommuting job. But, no seller of telecommuting jobs can guarantee much of anything, except that you can get your money back if you're not satisfied. But you have to make an effort to claim it. Many don't claim their money, because they are embarrassed they were taken or it's just too much trouble. That's one of the ways telecommuting-job rip-offs stay in business. Some don't refund money, period, despite their so-called guarantees.
The Internet has opened a whole new avenue for the scammers to fling the same bull you find in the classified sections of tabloids, so watch out for them on the Net, too. The old sayings apply.
- If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
- If it requires an investment or fee, ignore it.
Reputable job sites, recruiters and employers don't charge job seekers for typical employment services, period. In fact, it is outlawed in some states.
| Incidentally, Jobs for Programmers is one of the most promising free sites for real telecommuting jobs—if you're a programmer, that is. |
