I continue to collect interesting, entertaining, useful, and unique links to include in this series. I hope you find them helpful. If so, keep an eye open for "Cool Tools IV."

You'll find a couple of cool tools at Hot Jobs. In addition to tips on creating your résumé and cover letter, Hot Shots Résumé Workshop includes a cool tool called Reslex. Use this online software to automatically extract, format, and edit important information from your plain ol' ASCII résumé. After approving and submitting your résumé, create a personal, password-protected home page to manage your job search, at The Hot Spot. For free, you may use this cool tool to:

  • Retrieve statistics on how many times your résumé has been searched by employers
  • Lock your résumé so your employer doesn't see it
  • Edit or delete your résumé online
  • Keep track of jobs for which you have applied
  • Set up your personal search agent to automatically notify you of jobs matching your criteria

Search several newspapers and popular job databases, all from one place at Jobs MetaSEARCH @ JobBank USA. JobBank USA is growing, so you may want to keep an eye on it. For example, a Career Fairs page is coming soon, along with JobScout Email Agent, a cool tool that automatically notifies you of jobs, via email. (See my Jobs by Email category for more of these convenient agents.) While you're keeping an eye on this site, you might want to submit your résumé, check out the jobs of a few firms, and read or post messages at employment newsgroups, if you have configured your browser for such. For more information about using newsgroups, see Job Newsgroups.

While they have little to do with job searching per se, the Tools at Money Online have lots to do with career-related issues and making the most of your hard-earned money. For example, if want to know which cities are the best, crummiest, cheapest, or most expensive places to live and work, try The Best Places to Live in America, where you can search for your ideal city by ranking nine categories. If you want to get down to the nitty-gritty, you can also rank up to 63 factors within the nine categories, such as job growth, projected job growth, unemployment rate, and cost of living. Planning for retirement? See the Retirement Calculator. Doing your taxes? Try the Tax Cut E-Valuator, apropos for this time of year. There's lots more, too.

Comments, suggestions or questions? Found a great career resource and want to share it? Send feedback. Want to network and discuss technical job searching, employment, and careers with others? Go to the chat room or bulletin board, both open 24 hours daily.
