State Job Services
You don't have to be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits to take advantage of the job-searching services that your state offers for free, through its Career One Stop Center. After all, you're already paying for it in your taxes or unemployment insurance paycheck deductions.
Many offer the full gamut of Web-based job-searching options, including
- Private-sector jobs
- Government jobs
- Temporary jobs
- Entry-level jobs, internships and apprenticeships
- Union jobs
- Resume posting
- Career tips
If you are currently collecting unemployment benefits, yours might offer job-training options, too. Better yet, your state's job service is not likely to sell your contact information or blindly broadcast your resume to who knows who, like some of the less-reputable job banks might.
To find your state's job service on the Web, start at America's Job Bank, the central, government-authorized job service for all states. You can search for a job in your state or any state right there, or link to a state job service.
