New Job Sites

When a few, noteworthy news stories or press releases are published at around the same time, I offer this recurring feature to help keep you up to date on the latest in job searching and employment trends. I hope you find it useful.

CareerZone
The e-zine American Banker Online announced this new career site last week. Powered by CareerBuilder, it appears to be an up and coming comprehensive site, featuring weekly career articles and job searching by location, description, keywords, and salary. Conveniently, they insert an asterisk (*) next to the locations and categories that have current openings, so you don't waste your time. Even more convenient and time-saving is their Personal Search Agent®, where you may register to receive daily job notification by email. (For more of these convenient search agents, see my Jobs by Email category.) Probably because CareerZone is very new, except for IT/MIS jobs, it's light on technical jobs. Naturally, they favor the financial and banking industries. But, judging by the categories listed, it appears that they plan to list many types of jobs including technical and high-tech, so keep them bookmarked.

jobEngine
Ziff-Davis and Interactive Search recently teamed up to launch this job-searching site. You may post and manage your résumé, and search for full- or part-time, computer-related jobs and internships by location, company, title, and keyword. A very nice touch is that you may even specify the driving distance from your zip code.

WebJobsUSA
This new site was suggested by Susan, a member of Webgrrls, which I list in Online Organizations. WebJobsUSA is dedicated to Internet-related jobs, from administrative to writing. With the number of Web sites exploding from around 600 to well over a million since 1993, I think they're on to something! They're still in the design and development phase, and doing a nice job. Recently, I received word that they were ready to go public. To entice employers, they are offering free job posting through the end of June. That's good for us job seekers, for whom they offer a variety of free services such as job searching by city and category, résumé posting, Web training resources, career newsletters and more.

Web-Staff
This staffing firm, with offices in London, Toronto and major cities in the US, launched their new Web site in February. As the name implies, Web-Staff is devoted exclusively to Internet-related jobs. They offer employment services and a comprehensive benefits package, including full medical and dental coverage, holiday and vacation pay, and a 401(k) plan. To express your interest in jobs, you must register by submitting your résumé. But, they let you first sneak a peek at temporary and permanent jobs, listed by city.
