Create Your Own Web Resume
Helpful Web Sites
Just about all you need to know to publish on the Web begins at Resources for Creating Web Sites by Netscape, the authority. Starting here, beginners and experts alike will find
- How-to documents, covering beginning to advanced topics
- Links to downloadable software, templates, backgrounds, and graphics
The graphics and templates include everything from the conservative to the bizarre. But, unless you're in an occupation where being bizarre is encouraged, don't use them in your Web resume! Be professional, yet show off your talents just a bit, as that's what a Web resume is all about. Remember, it's a resume and a Web page. It's you.
Netscape is just one of the many sites that will help you create Web pages. For example, Web Developer's Virtual Library is a cornucopia of beginning-to-advanced topics and tutorials. Internet.com does a good job too, with its Web Reference. Below are some other helpful sites.
Free Web Software
These sites offer free or try-for-free stuff that helps you create, enhance and publish your Web resume.
- ClipArtDownload by Corel, gives away thousands of images you can use on your Web pages.
- Dreamweaver is an expensive but powerful, WYSIWYG editor that is rapidly gaining popularity for all its jazzy features. Download the free trial.
- FrontPage is a relatively inexpensive WYSIWYG editor, with lots of features you already know if you use Microsoft Office products. Download the free trial.
- GIF Construction Set is inexpensive, fully-functioning shareware. Animate and compress GIF graphics you create or legally heist from the Web. Compressing graphics removes unnecessary file data and makes them load faster.
- Ulead GIF Animator costs about twice as much as GIF Construction Set, but you may find it easier to use. Download the trial version for free.
- Microsoft Clipart Gallery has hundreds of free and searchable Web graphics.
- Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard is fully-functioning freeware that helps you upload your HTML and graphics files to the Web.
- Web Documents Toolkit for Word is a free add-on for Microsoft Word 97 that updates Web authoring features.
- ZDNet offers a variety of free and trial Internet applications and tasty tidbits, including copy-and-paste Java Applets, JavaScripts and Pearl Scripts to give your site some flair. It's fairly easy to paste most of these into the HTML of your pages then tailor them, but it may be a tad advanced if you're a beginner.
Free Web Space
Your Internet service provider may provide free Web space as part of your communications package, as do Compuserve and AOL. To find out, contact them or visit their Web site. The popular sites below also offer free space, plus online tools to help you build your Web page. Unfortunately, nothing is truly free. The drawback is that you may have to put up with advertising on your Web page and junk email.
Search FreeWebSpace.net for lots more.
Web Resume Help
Before you can produce a Web resume, of course, you need to know how to write a standard resume. These resources help you do both.

- Internet Business Network Tools has general resume help from lots of sources.
- ResumeTutor is an award-winning, interactive, online workbook that makes resume writing easy and fun. It'll help you with content, organization, and style.
- Smart Career Moves Resume Generator in Australia helps you create, format and save a simple HTML resume. You might want to start with resources like this, then modify your creation with an editor.

Web Resume Samples
Links to HTML resumes are plentiful at Internet Business Network, but they're not too good about keeping the links up to date. But if you click enough links, you'll find a few. Yahoo has more.
