There are no "telecommuting jobs."
Lots of people say they want a telecommuting job, but have trouble finding one. Among other reasons
we'll get to later, that's because there is no such thing as a "telecommuting job" per se.
Telecommuting is not a job. It's just a term that describes a way of conducting business for
"regular" jobs that are conducive to it. It's also called teleworking.
Telecommuting was coined in 1973 by Jack Nilles, a physicist and "the father of telecommuting." According to PC Webopædia, he coined it "to describe a geographically dispersed office where workers can work at home on a computer and transmit data and documents to a central office via telephone lines."
