To avoid the risk of falling victim to overseas job scams, never do business with employment agencies that operate exclusively by phone or mail and don't be fooled by

• Testimonials: They are likely written by shills or the few people who had good luck landing overseas jobs through these scams.
• Exaggerated claims: They are just that, and nothing more than bait. It doesn't bother scammers at all to bait their victims with the absurd. If overseas job hype sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
• Guaranteed overseas job placement: Employment services can't possibly guarantee you a job, especially before they've even seen your resume. No reputable employment service would. A valid guarantee is just a "promise" that you'll get your money back if you're not satisfied. But good luck collecting it from fraudulent overseas job agencies.

Most legit employment agencies charge employers, not job seekers. In fact, it's illegal in some states for even legit agencies to charge job seekers for basic employment services. Illegal or not, none deserve payment until they've helped you land an overseas job.

But, why pay, when you can hunt for overseas jobs for free? There are dozens of reputable international job banks that won't charge you a penny. If you're tempted to pay an agency because you don't have much time to hunt on your own, then let the jobs come to you instead. Many of the international job banks will email you free overseas job lists that match your profile.

The bottom line is, never pay upfront fees or dial pay-per-call phone numbers for overseas jobs or any jobs for that matter.
