Icon Cool Tools II

Dateline: 12/22/97

After I wrote my first Cool Tools feature back in early October, I continued to collect interesting, entertaining, useful, and unique links in a special, bookmark folder. I've featured some on my home page, and added others to my Net Links categories. But, since I update my home page weekly and have 14 categories containing dozens of links, you may have missed them. I want to make sure you see them, plus some new ones; thus, "Cool Tools II" is born. I hope you find them useful. Keep an eye open for "Cool Tools III," coming in a couple of months.

AccuResume Writer received a five-star rating from ZDNet. I gave it a test run, and agree. It's a 32-bit application for Windows 95 or NT that helps you create and Rewire Your Résumé for the Internet, in ASCII (for emailing), HTML (for Web sites), and a special file format for employers that use AccuResume Manager. A simple, tabbed-window layout, spell checking, templates, and sample résumés make it easy. AccuResume Writer automatically formats your résumé and even creates special characters like bullets (•), while still maintaining ASCII compatibility. Best of all, it's free! Read more about it and download it from ZDNet or directly from AccuResume. Get software updates from the AccuResume home page. While you're there, check out their Web links directly to the job pages of over 400 companies.

For employers, AccuResume Manager is also available for downloading. It's free, too, if you can get along without printed manuals and tech support. For more information, start at the AccuResume home page.

Speaking of résumés, electronic résumé expert Rebecca Smith offers beginners an interactive, online tutorial called Job Searching on the Internet. In three, easy lessons, Rebecca teaches you how to navigate the Web, use online job-searching resources effectively, and prepare your résumé for emailing. Be sure to see Rebecca's home page for links to more of her free advice and tutorials.

Recruiting-Links.Com has a different approach than most job-searching sites. Their unique, award-winning Job Search Engine delivers you Straight to the Source. First, you select your search criteria from over 700 job, industry, and location categories. Then the search engine provides specific links to the Web sites of US and international employers that have jobs meeting your search criteria. Their new service EmployMAIL sends job announcements to you by email, based on your occupation and location preferences. See my Jobs by Email category for similar services and my 09/15/97 feature for the whole story.
