Job Outlook Survey Forecasts Healthy Hiring Increase in Q3, 2005
According to a job outlook survey conducted by Manpower, thirty-one percent of the employers polled reported that they expected to increase hiring in the third quarter (Q3) of 2005.
- Six percent expected to decrease hiring
- Fifty-seven percent expected no net change in hiring
- Six percent didn't speculate about the Q3 job outlook
As a result, the net forecasted hiring increase for Q3 was twenty-five percent (twenty-one percent seasonally adjusted), about the same as it was for Q2, 2005 and Q3, 2004. Overall, U.S. employers have expressed optimism about the job outlook since Q2, 2004.
Regionally, Southern and Western employers expressed the most promising job outlook for Q3. Northeastern and Midwestern employers weren't as optimistic, but still expected relatively healthy hiring increases before accounting for seasonal adjustments. Employers in the

Among the industries polled, employers in construction expressed the most promising job outlook, by forecasting a forty percent (twenty-seven percent seasonally adjusted) net increase in hiring. Employers in most of the other industries polled expected relatively healthy net hiring increases, while those in the education, public administration, and finance, insurance and real estate industries expected only moderate net hiring growth.
