Information About the EEOC

by Laura Schneider
for About.com

Definition: The EEOC is the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and is charged with ensuring equality in employment opportunities. The EEOC would be the best resource for issues related to discrimination. Popular topics relevant to the EEOC are sexual harassment, race discrimination, age discrimination, disability discrimination, discrimination based on national origin, and pregnancy discrimination. Also of interest from the EEOC are laws about retaliation - how if an employee files a claim against their employer based on EEOC laws, it is unlawful to retaliate. There is also information on the EEOC website about which employers are covered by the laws and under what circumstances.
