Silicon Valley is the only place on Earth not trying to figure out how to become Silicon Valley.Robert Metcalfe
Silicon Valley is the nickname for a U.S. region of about 1,500 square miles in Northern California in and around the city of San Jose, coined "The Capitol of Silicon Valley". But, the region encompasses several cities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Many reside within Santa Clara County, which is synonymous with Silicon Valley.
As you may know, silicon is the main ingredient in computer chip-making recipes. Because there are several chip manufacturers in the region, that's the origin of the Silicon part of its nickname. The Valley part comes from the fact that it's really a valley. It's nestled between the Diablo and Santa Cruz Mountain Ranges, where they flank the southern tip of the San Francisco Bay and beyond. Consequently, much of Silicon Valley is also nicknamed the South Bay Area.
In a nutshell, Silicon Valley is "High-Tech Heaven".
