If you're in the IT sector it's often nice to see how your peers view their jobs. If you're new to IT, or still considering an IT career, it's good to know how those already in the workforce view their jobs. Network solution provider Emerson Network Power recently conducted a survey of 792 IT professionals to determine which jobs are the most "always-on." They asked respondents to rate their positions for on-the-job demands. Those participating in the survey in February 2012 were relatively evenly divided between the United States, Asia, Europe and Latin America and worked for companies with 5,000 employees or more.

I’ve been in IT since 1984…”in the thick of it” both in network engineering and functional management up to the Director level.
This study is bull.
It is completely obvious and transparent Emerson NetWork Power is aggrandizing those who have the power to sign the Purchase Orders to buy IT goods and services.
This study was made to be a sales augmentation tool to stroke the egos of IT decision makers so they will purchase from Emerson NetWork Power.
The fact that a young writer from about.com found it, published it, and took it to be “bible” is an error and learning experience a young writer should be aware of.
I have been on-call with some of the largest companies in the world my entire career…as an network engineer AND a manager.
Every time I was called in at 3a, Executive Directors/Administrators, IT Procurement types, CIOs, IT Managers/Directors, Data Center Managers, Applications/SoftWare Development types, and DataBase Management types were nowhere to be found…all tucked comfortably under the covers at home.
When it IT, ALWAYS think in 3D…not 1D…and never believe anyone until you check it out for yourself.
Hello “Me”.
First of all… “young”? Why thank you!!
Secondly, there was nothing in this to suggest Emerson’s study should be viewed as anyone’s bible.
I’ve been there too as a tech, as a manager and even as the sales rep… onsite at 4 a.m. during migrations, getting a web server online, restoring a corrupted backup, replacing components, etc. etc. Doing the work myself, overseeing those doing the work or just bringing coffee and helping to calm down a client when things seem to be heading south.
I should like to take the opportunity to remind all of our readers that if you ask people to rate the stress levels of their own jobs, the results of your survey may be a bit biased.
I do not know whether it’s just me or if everyone else encountering problems with your website. It appears as though some of the text on your content are running off the screen. Can somebody else please comment and let me know if this is happening to them too? This could be a issue with my internet browser because I’ve had this happen previously. Appreciate it
