Telecommuting
A Matter of Trust
Part II

There are two, typical types of telecommuters.

One type of telecommuter is self-employed as an independent contractor, freelance or small-business owner, who provides services to companies such as programming, copywriting, and graphics. Because this individual is self-employed, the individual may work however he or she wants, including telecommuting.

The other type of telecommuter is a temp or permanent, computer-savvy employee who telecommutes from home part to full time, doing essentially the same tasks he or she would do at the office. From here on, the latter type of telecommuter is what this article sticks to when referring to "telecommuting jobs."

The most important factor in either case, is that the telecommuter qualifies for the work he or she does. One typically can't qualify for telecommuting without first qualifying for the work itself. The need or desire to telecommute is not enough on its own, a mistake many people make when searching for telecommuting jobs.
