Employer Web Sites
One of the best ways to land jobs—especially those that aren't
advertised—is by contacting employers directly, but not by blindly spamming
them with your resume. Employers are barraged by unsolicited resumes daily and
many are filed and forgotten. It's better to know something about a company
first and include this wisdom in a tailored cover letter,
then send it along with your tailored resume
for specific job openings.
Most companies have sites these days that tell you just about everything you
need to know about them, including job opportunities that they may not advertise
elsewhere. To find them, visit sites that point
to employers' Web sites and job pages. If you have a specific company in mind,
just type its full name into your Web browser (where you'd type a URL) to search
for it.
