Definition: There are often differences between the wage, hour and employment laws that are set by the Federal government, and those set by each individual state. Generally, whichever law gives the greatest benefit to the employee is the law that the courts will enforce. The US Department of Labor has this section of their website for referrals to various state labor laws, such as minimum wage and hour laws.
