Each year, con artists lead thousands of Federal job seekers into believing that, for a fee, their chances of landing U.S. Federal jobs are guaranteed or greatly improved. This is simply not true.

Regardless of what the con artists lead you to believe, you can't buy your way into a Federal job any more than you can buy your way into any other legit job. The same goes for state and local government jobs.

In early 2001, the Federal Trade Commission announced that it had recently filed five legal actions against nine companies and seven individuals it suspected were running Federal job scams. The cases made a total of nine that the FTC filed up to that point, thwarting nearly $15 million in Federal job fraud sales.

Despite the FTC's admirable actions to protect us, you can bet that, until they get caught, many con artists are still lurking out there, waiting for the next Federal-job sucker to come along. For every fraudulent company that the FTC busts, you can also bet there will be another to take its place, with the same or a modified Federal job scam.
