Most job applicants do not send post-interview thank you letters. This is a huge mistake. Even if you think an offer is in the bag, you can always improve your chances of getting the job if you send a follow-up thank you letter. Your letter should reiterate your core strengths and emphasize the value you bring to the table. You can even squelch any concern the employer raised about your qualifications and add important information you didn't get the chance to discuss in the interview. Especially in today's competitive job market, it's imperative that you stand out from the competition.

Thank You Letter Appropriate for Email

Below is an example of a thank you letter that can be used after an interview. In this case, the interview was for a Computer Technician position, and the letter addresses concerns that came out of the interview about the candidate's previous IT experience. This thank you letter also highlights examples of the candidate's qualifications. The format of this thank you letter is appropriate for an email, which is the standard thank you letter delivery method for technical careers.

Dear Mr./Ms. Interviewer:

Thank you for the time you took to interview me for the Computer Technician opening at XYZ Company.

After our interview, I am certain I have the skills you're looking for in your computer technicians. I know you expressed some concern in our meeting that I have not worked in a large IT organization. I want to stress, however, that I have participated significantly in the development of our computer lab. I feel confident that I could contribute immediately to the company's technical support needs.

I have attached a letter from my supervisor, which details my commitment to customer service, my dedication to hard work, and my ability to learn quickly.

Thank you again for this wonderful opportunity to interview for the Computer Technician position.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr./Ms. Interviewer:

Thank you for meeting with me this morning to discuss the executive assistant position. I enjoyed our conversation, and I am very excited about the possibility of joining your team.

You mentioned that you need an assistant who has strong people skills, and this is an area in which I excel. At XYZ Company, I helped the manager build a loyal client base by consistently providing excellent service. Also, I don't see the executive assistant role as a punch-the-clock job; I will be your right hand and help you manage the day-to-day operations and volunteer for special projects.

I can be reached at JaneDoe@xyz.com or 212-555-5555. I would be happy to provide you references and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,
